This was not the most inexpensive way to go, but it was a journey I had dreamed of and it enabled us to see places we never could have seen had we been on a bus tour, nor would we have been able to find them if we had been driving ourselves. Neither of us wanted to attempt to tackle UK driving and the tour included a careful, genial driver who was prompt, helpful, and on top of all the details. Before our trip it would have been impossible for us to imagine the winding unmarked back roads of the highlands or the curving, often unmarked country roads of the south. For anyone considering travel to Scotland to visit family sites, I could not recommend a better way. Scottish Ancestral Trail gave me a lifetime of memories
